Every computer needs an operating system — the "spirit" inside the box that wakes it up and tells all the parts how to work together. Your phone has Android or iOS. Our server will have Ubuntu — and its story will make you proud:
A university student built his own operating system for fun... then gave it away FREE to the whole world and let anyone improve it! He called it Linux. Today Linux quietly runs most of the internet's servers.
He sold his internet company, paid his own way to space (first African in space, 2002! 🚀), then took Linux and made it friendly for everyone. He named it after an African word...
Ubuntu means "I am because we are" — I become my best because we help each other. Thousands of volunteers around the world improve Ubuntu together and give it away free, forever.
A raw server only understands typed commands — like flying a plane with no dashboard! A control panel gives your server buttons, dials and screens, so you can fly it by clicking. cPanel is a famous one (it costs money — Coach Glory rents it with her hosting). HestiaCP is its free cousin that we'll put on OUR server. Tap the dials:

Download Ubuntu (free! 🎁) and pour it onto a USB stick with a tool called Etcher.

⏱️ ~30 minUpdate everything, note the server's network address, lock it on the router — then control it from the laptop. Monitor goes away forever!
