Become a Cyber Defender!
The SOC Analyst Adventure

A SOC Analyst is a digital security guard โ€” they watch a company's computers all day and catch bad guys before they break in. No university degree needed to start. Kids AND adults welcome. Let's train until you can do it in your sleep! ๐Ÿ˜ด

๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ What Does a SOC Analyst Actually Do?

SOC means Security Operations Center โ€” a room full of big screens where defenders watch over a company's computers, like lifeguards watching a swimming pool. Tap each card to peek inside their day!

๐Ÿ‘€

They Watch

Screens full of alerts, all day long

TAP ME! ๐Ÿ‘†
๐Ÿ”

They Investigate

Real attackโ€ฆ or just a cat on the car?

They Respond

Lock it, block it, report it โ€” fast!

Kodi says: Notice something cool? You don't need to be a genius hacker to start. You need to be curious, careful, and calm โ€” like a good detective. The tech skills? We build those next, one small brick at a time!

โšก Quick Check!

An alert says: "User Tobi typed the wrong password 3 times, then got it right." What's your FIRST move as a SOC analyst?

MISSION 2 OF 6

๐Ÿšช How "Knocks" Travel โ€” Networking Basics

Every computer on the internet is like a house on a giant street. To defend the houses, you must understand how visitors knock. Tap the cards!

Kodi says: Memorizing famous port numbers is a SOC superpower โ€” interviewers LOVE asking them! Play the matching game below until it feels easy. Then play it again tomorrow. That's the clubhouse way: repeat until your fingers know it.

๐ŸŽฎ Game: Match the Door to its Visitor!

Tap a port on the left, then tap its job on the right.

๐Ÿšช Port (Door #)

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ’ผ Who knocks there?

โšก Quick Check!

Your screen shows one strange IP address trying door 21, then 22, then 23, then 25, then 80โ€ฆ one after another. What is this?

MISSION 3 OF 6

๐Ÿ’ก The Secret Numbers โ€” How Computer Code Was Born

Why do hackers and defenders talk about 1s and 0s? Because deep inside, a computer is just millions of tiny light switches. A switch is ON (1) or OFF (0) โ€” nothing else! In the 1930sโ€“40s, pioneers like Claude Shannon realized you could build ALL of math, letters, and pictures from just those two states. That idea is called binary, and it still runs everything today.

๐Ÿค–

Kodi says: Each switch is worth a number: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 โ€” doubling each time! Turn switches ON and add up their values. That's it. That's the whole secret. 8 switches together = 1 byte, enough to make any letter of the alphabet. Try it below โ€” make the number, feel the magic! โœจ

๐Ÿ”ฆ The Light-Switch Machine (a real byte!)

Tap bulbs ON/OFF. ON bulbs add their number together.

Your number: 0
๐Ÿ”ค

Letters = Numbers

A is secretly 65. Really!

TAP ME! ๐Ÿ‘†

โšก Quick Check!

Switches ON: the 4-bulb and the 1-bulb. Everything else OFF. What number did you make?

MISSION 4 OF 6

๐Ÿ“œ Log Detective โ€” Read the Computer's Diary

Every computer writes a diary called a log: who logged in, when, from where. SOC analysts read logs like detectives read clues. Below is a login log from "SunnyBank". Tap the 3 suspicious lines! (Hint: think about weird times, weird places, and too many failures.)

๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ Found: 0 / 3 suspicious lines
๐Ÿค–

Kodi says: Did you notice HOW you found them? You compared against normal. Normal = office hours, local city, 1โ€“2 tries. Anything far from normal = investigate! This skill is called anomaly spotting and it's 70% of the job. Replay this game until spotting weirdness feels automatic!

โšก Quick Check!

Amaka logs in every weekday from Abuja at 9am. Today she "logged in" from another continent at 3:47am. Best first action?

MISSION 5 OF 6

๐Ÿšฆ The Triage Arena โ€” Practice Like a Real SOC!

Real SOC work = alerts raining down, and YOU sorting them fast: ๐ŸŸข Safe (false alarm), ๐ŸŸก Watch (keep an eye on it), ๐Ÿ”ด Danger (act NOW!). This is the exact skill of the job. Build a streak! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ† Score: 0 ๐Ÿ”ฅ Streak: 0 ๐Ÿ“จ Alert 1/10
Loading alertโ€ฆ

Play the 10 alerts, then hit Sleep-Mode Drill to loop them shuffled forever โ€” until your hands answer before your brain wakes up!

๐Ÿค–

Kodi says: Wrong answers here are GOOD โ€” each mistake comes with a pop-up explaining the real analyst's thinking. In the clubhouse we say: a mistake with a lesson is worth more than a lucky guess! Aim for a 10-streak in drill mode. Then come back tomorrow and do it again. ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ˜ด The "Do It In Your Sleep" Training Plan

  1. Daily (15 min): One round of the Triage Arena + Port Match. Repetition builds automatic hands.
  2. Every 2 days: Replay Log Detective. Say OUT LOUD why each line is suspicious โ€” teaching your own ears is a memory superpower.
  3. Weekly: Explain one concept (ports, binary, impossible travel) to a family member. If they get it, YOU own it.
  4. Notebook rule: Every new term goes in your own words in your own notebook. Read it before bed โ€” your brain files it while you sleep. Really! ๐Ÿง
  5. Monthly: One free room on TryHackMe or LetsDefend. Small, steady, unstoppable.
๐Ÿค–

Kodi says: One day the tools will change, but the core never changes: know what normal looks like, spot what's weird, protect first, investigate calmly, write it down. Master that core and you can even invent new defenses nobody has thought of yet. The clubhouse believes in you! ๐Ÿงก
